Program Message from Jessica

from Assistant Executive Director Jessica Carter

As we head into our sixth week away from PIC, our primary focus continues to be the social-emotional development of your children. We know this is an especially challenging time for children and families, as everyone is coping with individual at-home circumstances.

We want to offer some opportunities for routine, familiarity, and emotional support. Teachers are leading virtual Morning Meetings through Zoom and YouTube, giving everyone the chance to stay connected to their classroom community. They are also sending read-alouds and age-appropriate activities, along with social-emotional prompts encouraging families to share photos with one another.

Our Early Learning teachers are taking an average of three hours of professional development a week, participating in webinars with high-quality organizations such as First Up, Nature Explore, and Kodo Kids.

In addition, teachers are submitting their home-friendly activities and invitations to a shared Google Drive for families to use. They are sorted by developmental focus (sensory, early mathematics, fine motor, etc.) and will soon have goals for learning attached to each activity.

We want to learn how this time at home has been for your family. Please complete this short survey to let us know how things are going and ways we may be able to improve upon our virtual offerings.

Please feel free to reach out to me at jcarter@parentinfantcenter.org with any questions. Take care and stay well.
