Plant Sale: A Family Affair

We have always tried to instill “green” values in our family’s lives. We gave our son the middle name “Verde” which means “green” in Spanish because we hoped to cultivate a love and respect for all things living and growing.
Our daughter’s given name is Meskerem which means born in September, and the Meskel flowers that bloom in Ethiopia at that time are bright and happy (very fitting for Remy’s personality). We gave her the middle name “Orli” which means “I have light” in Hebrew: you certainly can’t get very far growing many things without that element!
Our kids have always loved working alongside us in the backyard with our plants and coming to the community garden. They are fiercely proud of the plant sale at PIC and enjoy picking out a plant or two of their own to grow.
Extra love definitely goes to the plants that are purchased at the Plant Sale. Elijah had the opportunity to paint KidPots for two years at PIC, and now Remy is excited to have her own handiwork displayed on our porch as well as those of her grandparents.
We are so grateful for the nurturing and caring environment that our children experience in the classrooms, and now our little ones can model that care on plants.
We love this family tradition and look forward to continuing it for years as our children take on even more active roles in plant selection and cultivation.
