Introducing: Sustainability Task Force

Loving leaves

Nature-based play has been a centerpiece of learning and growing at PIC for decades, from hours children spend exploring outdoors in all four seasons, to nature walks in the neighborhood, to our Magic Circle Nature Playground. PIC honors -- and research confirms -- nature as “a home for children’s play and learning.”

The Sustainability Task Force
This new initiative, is rooted in PIC's nature-based traditions and hopes to give back to the natural world that supports our children’s play and learning. The Sustainability Task Force aims to ground PIC’s curriculum, culture, and operations in care for the ecosystems we inhabit and conservation of the resources we use.

This year, we’re turning our attention to: increasing energy efficiency through LED lighting, reviving and expanding our composting practices, adding native plant mini-gardens to our campus for tending by and growing with “buddy classrooms,” and supporting teachers with nature-based learning resources for young children.

Who are we? Please join us!
While the Sustainability Task Force has been launched by a small group of staff and family members, we welcome all to this effort! We are curious about your thoughts around promoting environmental stewardship at PIC. Please reach out! Contact Associate Director Jessica Carter at jcarter@parentinfantcenter.org or PIC Board member and parent Jill Shashaty at jillshashaty@gmail.com.
