Kindergarten Registration

A message to families from Deb Green

October 2020

Hello Parents of Children of 2021 Kindergarteners,

We know times are strange right now and thinking too far ahead can be overwhelming. Yet, we want to make sure that all families of children who will be 5-years-old by September 1, 2021 are planning for their child’s kindergarten experience next fall.

Because of COVID-19 and the current policies at most schools, kindergarten registration will be different this year. Most will be completing the enrollment process online.

There are many dates and deadlines associated with applying for kindergarten and these dates may be different depending upon the choices being made: Public School, Charter School, or Independent Schools.

If you plan for your child to attend a public school within the School District of Philadelphia, please read the information at the following link.

The Philadelphia School District has a School Selection Process for families who wish to apply to a school outside of their neighborhood boundaries for admission. The deadline for applications is November 6, 2020. For more information visit:

A Charter School is an independently run public school. The application deadline for Charter Schools is January 21, 2021. For more information visit:

For  information about Independent Schools, you can visit individual school websites. Most are scheduling virtual open houses this fall. Below are links to some of the independent schools that PIC  children have gone to over the past few years.

These will be helpful resources as you prepare for this next step.

The School District of Philadelphia offers this Virtual Kindergarten Open House presentation.

Please reach out if you have any questions. We may be able to answer your questions or connect you with other parents whose children attend the school(s) that you are interested in or have questions about.
