July Message from Deb Green

PIC 2014-2015 in Photos

Happy New Year...in July!

While the calendar year begins in January and the school year begins in September, the new year for most non-profit organizations (including PIC) begins each July. When I reflect on all that happens at PIC over the course of one year, I have to smile. This past year has been fun-filled and adventurous. So for my July monthly message, here are some high points...

Last summer included our family social events (Lemonade Lull, the Spoil-your-Supper ice Cream Social and Watermelon Wednesday), weekly Storytime in Clark Park sessions, and an amazing camp season. Look for all of these again this summer (and don’t miss the Lemonade Lull NEXT WEEK!)

In SEPTEMBER...

PIC staff enjoyed an outdoor exploration of creativity during Fall In-service Days.

Families and teachers met one another, shared a meal, and participated in many hands-on activities at our annual Classroom Potlucks

In OCTOBER...

Our annual Art Start fundraising event raised $28,000 to benefit PIC's tuition assistance fund, which last year helped 23 families with the cost of care.

We thanked our donors who so generously supported the development of our Nature Playground with a Donor Appreciation Breakfast

And, we held our first Fall Family Festival, a gathering of children, family, and staff to celebrate the beauty of autumn.

In NOVEMBER...

We showcased children’s literacy (and art, and song, and dance!) at our November Family BookFest

We welcomed PIC Grandfriends into our classrooms to share the joy of discovery that our little ones experience at PIC every day.

In DECEMBER...

We held our Winter Open House to celebrate the holiday season.

In MARCH...

U.S. Senator Bob Casey held a press conference at PIC to discuss bills he presented to Congress aimed at increasing both the quality and the accessibility of programs for young children across the country. Our state Representative Jim Roebuck was on hand to show his support.

In APRIL...

We celebrated Earth Day with a chilly (and windy) parade to Penn’s campus.

In MAY...

St. Andrew’s Chapel was transformed into a beautiful garden of flowers, herbs and vegetables at our annual PIC Plant Sale

In JUNE...

We received notice that PIC achieved our NAEYC re-accreditation that is now in effect until 2020! Staff celebrated with a "We did it! NAEYC 2015" photo booth.

Our second (now annual) end-of-year Family Picnic at Smith Playground was held.

And, we were delighted to get dirty as we ended the 2014-15 year with a celebration of International Mud Day on June 29.

I look forward to sharing the next year of fun and adventure with all of you!
