With Gratitude for All
a monthly message by Deb Green
As we enter the month of December and have the calendar year come to an end, I take a moment to reflect on this season of giving and on the many things to be grateful for at PIC.
First and foremost, I am so grateful for the children.
Despite what can often feel like a confusing and chaotic world, the children remind me daily of hope. I see how eager children are to engage in learning social-emotional skills that are at the forefront of our values. They love learning about the various feelings we all experience, learning strategies for managing feelings, and learning skills of peaceful conflict resolution when differences arise. I observe how easy it is for children to forgive. I watch how easy it is for them to understand and appreciate differences.
I am grateful for our families.
Our families commit their time and talents to strengthen the PIC community all year long. You share cultural traditions in classrooms, serve as Room Parents and on our Board of Directors, and show up in many other ways. You celebrate our accomplishments and you show support when support is needed. PIC families know that involvement in their children’s school experiences will positively impact their future success.
I am grateful for our teachers.
They provide high quality care and education to our children. Children learn through play, are engaged in hands-on activities, and make meaningful connections with nature. PIC educators develop curriculum for children to learn literacy, math and science skills, and do so in ways that are developmentally appropriate, creative and fun.
Teaching at this level takes tremendous dedication. PIC teachers pursue degrees in early childhood education, attend conferences and workshops, and mentor aspiring and current teachers. Their willingness to learn, grow, and be leaders in the field, is inspiring.
I am grateful for our friends who make all of this happen.
And, last but not least, we are so fortunate to have so many individuals and organizations that believe in the work that we do, and who understand that sustaining a community at this level requires support beyond what families can pay for child care.
For those of you who celebrate the December holidays, I wish you a safe and joyous season. We are closed the last week of December for Winter Break, and my hope is that this is a time for rest, reconnection, reflection, and recharge for all.
