Celebrating New Classrooms

Hugs in the new Hummingbirds preK classroom
This September, we welcomed 32 more children and their families to PIC by opening two new mixed-income, mixed-age preschool classrooms (3-5 years old), where 20 seats are dedicated to children who are at PIC free of charge through Pennsylvania’s PreK Counts program.

PIC supporters, friends, and funders gathered recently to celebrate our expansion and show-off our new space.

We are thankful for everyone who made this project possible, and we are especially grateful for an early leadership gift from an anonymous donor, a significant grant from the Fund for Quality, support from the University of Pennsylvania, sustaining gifts to PIC’s Cindy Fund, and the hard work of Bluestone Construction.

Continuing Diversity

And while we have much to celebrate, it takes continued support to maintain high quality programming, while enrolling families at all socio-economic levels.

The reality is that current levels of reminbursement for children in publicly-funded programs do not come close to covering the true cost of high quality care.

It takes good friends like Jim and Marcy Lilly (first photo below) to help us continue our rich diversity. As donors to PIC’s Cindy Fund, their monthly recurring gift allows us to welcome families at all income levels and give children the quality start they deserve.

Donations made to the Cindy Fund, established by her family to celebrate the work of former executive Director Cindy Roberts, support children in PIC's pre-K classrooms whose families are unable to afford the full cost of tuition.

At the opening celebration Jim and Marcy remarked on how much Cindy would have loved the two new classrooms.

You, too can help PIC to sustain the wonderful socio-economic diversity we have long valued. Gifts may be made online at parentinfantcenter.org, or contact Development Manager Karen Stachelek at 215-222-5480 or via email at kstachelek@parentinfantcenter.org.
