ArtStart makes a difference

Playground Counting

a message from Executive Director Jamila Carter

At the end of each week, I review the classroom newsletters sent to families, which provide updates on what the children are learning. These newsletters, filled with text, pictures, and videos, vividly capture the energy and vibrancy of our classrooms at PIC. Through these communications, learning experiences come to life, showcasing the dedication and expertise of our teachers as they create a stimulating and engaging environment that fosters lifelong learning and critical development.

PIC exemplifies high-quality early childhood education. Our programs are essential for healthy development, providing children with play-based learning, early literacy and math skills, and vital social interactions—all of which are critical for brain development during the formative years. These early experiences set children on a path toward successful, fulfilling lives, ultimately strengthening families and communities. While I’m incredibly proud of the work we do, it’s a stark reminder that many families still lack access to the high-quality education that PIC offers.

This is where ArtStart, PIC’s signature fundraising event makes a difference. This year’s celebration, A Night Under the Stars,  promises to be an unforgettable evening. Taking place on Thursday, October 17th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., ArtStart will be hosted on the blacktop at PIC, transforming the space into a lively and elegant setting for a night of art, fun, and community.

The event is designed as a fun-filled, adults-only party, featuring an incredible exhibit of artwork created by the children at PIC. These unique pieces showcase the creativity and imagination fostered in our classrooms. In addition to the art display, attendees can participate in a silent auction, bidding on one-of-a-kind items and experiences generously donated by local businesses, families, and friends of PIC.

Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a selection of delicious food and drinks, including wine, while mingling and enjoying the company of fellow PIC supporters. Live music will add to the festive atmosphere, making it a perfect evening to celebrate the importance of early childhood education.

Most importantly, all proceeds from ArtStart go directly to PIC’s tuition assistance fund, which was established in 1986. This fund is crucial in helping families who do not qualify for government subsidies but cannot afford the full tuition. By supporting ArtStart, you’re helping more children gain access to the high-quality early learning experiences that PIC provides, making a lasting impact on families and the community.
We invite you to join us for an evening of art, music, and community, all in support of expanding access to exceptional early childhood education.
