Applauding Achievement: Demita Hill

Deb Green and Demita Hill
We are thrilled to share that Sunshines Lead Teacher Demita Hill has been named a 2016 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s TYLENOL® National Child Care Teacher Award recipient.

Each year, child care teachers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and on U.S. Miltary bases around the world apply for this prestigious award. Each applicant must design a classroom enhancement project illustrating the educational, social, and emotional benefits of the activities.

Demita's application included her project entitled, "Explosion in Literacy." Her goal is to create more rich and meaningful experiences with words and stories for her children.

As an award recipient, Demita will receive funding for her project. She is excited to expand her class library with new books that feature diversity, as well as others that introduce letters and numbers within the story.

This award will also allow her to purchase soft pillows for the Sunshines' book area, more flannel board stories to support storytelling, and a CD player so they can incorporate more movement and song into their days.

When asked about receiving the grant, Demita said, "When the children come into the classroom, most are not talking a lot, but they leave us talking in full sentences. It is great to watch language develop for a child over the year and this project supports all that learning."

This is Demita's second time winning this award. We are doubly proud of her accomplishment and can't wait to see what happens in the Sunshine classroom!

Demita, along with 50 other early childhood teachers, will be honored at a special ceremony in April.
