Plant Sale Starts in March!

PIC's Karen Stachelek gets ready for the Plant Sale
Even though it’s STILL snowing, we know spring is almost here!

Our Plant Sale Committee began meeting in February to plan this year’s annual fundraiser, but now that March has begun, things are really starting to happen!

Marni Fogelson-Teel, whose daughter Remy is a Starfish and son Elijah is a PIC alum, co-chairs this year's event with Lisa Weidman, whose daughter Lucia is a Grasshopper. Both have volunteered for past plant sales and are bringing their experience to this year’s event.

On the committee are: Denise Brice (Moonbeam teacher), Mary Maier (Aidan is a Roadrunner and Alison is a Moonbeam), Vicky Olsen (Zoe is in the Fireflies and Lukas will be here soon), Reena Rai (Rama is a Moonbeam), Romit Shahani & Palak Singhee (Jiva is a Caterpillar), Jill Shashaty (Anna is a Hawk, Gabriel is a Roadrunner, Dahlia is a Peanut, and we hope that baby brother Raphael will be at PIC soon!), Christian & Erin Ticehurst (Emily is a Wild Thing), Nicole Williams (Bumblebees teacher), and Qufei Wu (Evan is in the Fireflies and we hope to see little brother Jeffrey here soon!). Anyone of these enthusiastic committee members would be happy to tell you more about the event!

In 1986, PIC began a tradition of giving back to families with our tuition assistance fund. It helps PIC families who, without added financial support, might otherwise not be able to afford the high cost of quality early learning and after school programming.

This past year, twenty-five families received nearly $40,000 in tuition assistance because of the success of PIC's annual fundraisers. One family’s acknowledgement of their grant award reflects the importance of and need to strengthen this program.

“Thank you so much for this award. We were worried that we may not be able to return to PIC next year, but this award makes it possible for our family to continue to be part of this wonderful place.”

The Plant Sale is one of two annual fundraisers we have to support our tuition assistance fund, an important resource for neighborhood families. Everyone is encouraged to take part in the Plant Sale whether by buying or selling plants to friends, families, neighbors and co-workers.

Every Early Learning classroom that achieves 100% participation during the pre-sale drive earns a prize, as does the After School Center for hitting a dollar goal.

Keep a lookout for more news about the start of the Pre-Sale Campaign that kicks off on Monday, March 16th. And then spread the word!

This sale, with its Sale Days on May 1 and 2, is truly a West Philly event. It is also a wonderful opportunity to see the beautiful St. Andrew’s Chapel during the day with the light streaming through the stained glass, and filled with flowers. Anyone who’s been to the Plant Sale knows the chapel hasn’t been “shuttered for 20 years” as was recently reported. As a Plant Sale supporter, you will always be "in-the-know" about this incredible West Philly landmark.
