Building Partnerships with Families

Butterflies and Turtle

a monthly message from Jamila Carter

What does building partnerships with families look like? We see family partnership unfold at PIC in a variety of ways.

It shows on our Board of Directors and committees where many members of the Board are family members, giving their time, providing leadership, and showing their dedication to PIC.

We build partnerships at social events, where this summer's Lemonade Lull, Ice Cream Social, and Watermelon Wednesday brought families together, showing a joint commitment to build a stronger PIC community.

And, partnership is found in the classroom where relationships between families and teachers grow. Families volunteer in the classroom or share something special like a cultural tradition, a recipe, a song, or even a turtle.

Yes, a turtle!

Last week, A Butterflies dad brought in a turtle named Turtle who is older than our kiddos and some of our teachers! For that child, it was a piece of home and family history, and he was proud to share it with his friends and teachers. It sparked a whole lot of curiosity, and the Butterflies peppered their visitor with question after question!

When families show up in our classrooms, they create a meaningful connection between home and school, and children feel seen. And our community is enriched every time a family brings in a piece of their world.

We need family involvement to keep PIC strong. That is why we have the Family Participation Program where we encourage families to get involved in the life of the center.

This Saturday we have an opportunity for you to get involved and we’re putting out a call for your help. The Fall Family Work Day is Saturday, October 10, from 9 am to 12 pm. It's a great chance to help with projects around PIC and connect with other families. We could use help with Art Start preparations and removing invasive plants on the property. Families who plan to come should RSVP here to help with planning.

Together we are building partnerships in so many different ways. We value any and all the ways you can be involved.
