In Memory of Cindy Roberts

Dear Friends,

One year ago today, former Executive Director Cindy Roberts lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cindy was a part of PIC's culture for more than 30 years -- as a parent, a Board member, an administrator, and Executive Director. She was dedicated to the children, families, and teachers at PIC, and so incredibly invested in this very special community.

Cindy was swept into the leadership role upon the unexpected death of longtime PIC Executive Director Marni Sweet in 2007. Cindy, with such energy and vision, provided this community with continuity and direction at a time when it was most needed.

In memory of Marni, she successfully led a $1 million fundraising campaign that enabled PIC to offer high-quality childcare to an additional 50 neighborhood children.

Through Cindy’s efforts, PIC became one of the earliest partners to participate in Pennsylvania’s publicly funded preschool program for children from economically-disadvantaged households.

In 2013, she handed me the reigns of this wonderful organization.

And now, as PIC stands on the verge of another expansion, one that will create two additional mixed-age, mixed-income preschool classrooms and give 20 more children from low-income households the highest quality preschool experience, I think of Cindy with such immense appreciation for all that she did.

Cindy was committed to making quality child care available to every family, regardless of income. Upon her death, Cindy’s family established a special fund to support pre-k children on subsidy at PIC, and continue the work that Cindy started.

To date the Cindy Fund has raised over $30,000, which will be used to support PIC’s enrollment of children in publicly-funded pre-k.

Cindy had an enormous impact on the Parent-Infant Center and as we look to our immediate future, I see her lasting legacy before me.
In appreciation and memory,
