Flexing Big Muscles
from the Moonbeams
Gross motor skills involve the development of muscles of the arms, legs and torso. We know that having time outside is important for lots of reasons, such as connecting with nature, getting fresh air and improving vision, but perhaps the children’s favorite thing about being outdoors is that it provides the best place to move our bodies in big ways!
Pulling, pushing, lifting and carrying can help children strengthen arms, shoulders and torsos. In addition, social skills may also get a workout when determining whose turn it is next and negotiating with peers as to how to best work together for a common goal.
