Sylvia Houghteling
Sylvia Houghteling feels so grateful to have two children in the Parent Infant Center preschool program. Over the past two years, she has been amazed by the spirit of kindness, community, and learning that exists at PIC.
Sylvia is an assistant professor in the History of Art department at Bryn Mawr College. At Bryn Mawr, she has served as a Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies for the History of Art department, and as a member of the Faculty Welfare Committee. Her work both inside and outside of the classroom focuses on the history and making of textiles.
In addition to being a room parent in the Sunshine classroom, she has visited the BlueJays classroom to explore silkworm cocoons during a study of butterflies and organized a surprisingly easy-to-clean-up natural dyeing birthday party on the PIC blacktop last year for her five-year-old.
In the coming year, she is excited to help in planning the ArtStart fundraiser and to work to support this wonderful community of early childhood educators and friends!
