It had to be one of the best birthdays ever seen at PIC; at least in the top 5 of all time classroom celebrations.

Today is Elliot's 3rd birthday and to celebrate, his mom and dad organized The Race.

It started when Rainbows Lead teacher Joanne Browley asked Elliot's dad to share what he does professionally with the children. The Rainbows were in the midst of exploring careers and Andrew Kucer knows about running.

He works at Students Run Philly stylean organization that pairs Philadelphia youth with mentors to train for actual races. According to Andrew, "it's more than the running, it is about the relationships that develop between children and adults who care about them."

Andrew visited the Rainbows and talked to the children about marathon running. He left a book for the classroom about training for a race that Elliot happily shared for three weeks!

Andrew, along with his wife Sheryl deepened the experience by organizing a running race for the Rainbows. It also became a great way to celebrate their son's birthday.

Excitement was in the air this morning as the Rainbows received their bib numbers and lined up to race on the playground. The "course" even included a table with paper cups filled with gatorade to keep the runners hydrateda very popular mid-way stop for the runners!

After the race, each child received a medal and drawstring bag filled with a banana and graham crackers to re-fuel, and other traditional post-race swag. What a way to keep it real!

Happy birthday Elliot!
